The island of Ibiza is divided into five municipalities, each with its own stunning landscapes, beautiful beaches and, of course, a wealth of spectacular villas in Ibiza. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be showcasing each area in our fortnightly blog, giving you a wonderful insight into the hidden gems each area has to offer, and guiding you through the island’s many wonders as you search for your dream home in Ibiza.
San Juan
One of the most beautiful areas is San Juan, in the far north of this small but magical island. There are many reasons to choose San Juan when looking for the perfect villa in Ibiza, from its scenic countryside and wild, rugged coastline to its soft sandy beaches, as well as a wealth of fabulous places to eat, drink and shop. Here are just a few of our favourites.
Beaches
San Juan is blessed with some of the island’s most secluded, idyllic and unspoilt beaches, many of which remain relatively untouched by the tourist crowds. Take the road towards Portinatx and you’ll discover the idyllic bays of Cala Xarraca and Cala Xucla, peaceful and far from the hustle and bustle; these horseshoe-shaped bays are a haven of peace and tranquillity, where you can swim, snorkel and splash about in the crystal-clear waters, rejuvenating your soul. Head further north, through the village of San Juan, and you’ll reach the stunning bay of Cala San Vicente. Here, there’s a livelier, family-friendly atmosphere, and the water is such a striking shade of turquoise that you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped onto a film set. Some of the villas in Ibiza overlooking this bay are among the most sought-after properties on the island, thanks to the unforgettable views of this unrivalled coastline. If you fancy a long, relaxed lunch, we recommend the cosy and quirky On the Beach restaurant, situated at the far right end of the beach, where a warm welcome and excellent food are guaranteed every time. Of course, we cannot fail to mention Benirass, one of Ibiza’s most famous beaches – a place where the bohemian crowd rubs shoulders with supermodels and hippies, yet where everyone is welcome – and the Sunday sunset drumming session is simply a must-see. It’s hard to believe, attracting a colourful array of musicians, dancers and percussionists who come to celebrate the end of yet another perfect day in Ibiza.
The village of San Joan
Undoubtedly one of Ibiza’s most picturesque villages, San Joan is home to some of the island’s most colourful characters, cafés and shops. A haven for artists and eccentric characters for decades, the village boasts a range of organic cafés, eclectic shops selling clothes and trinkets, and every Sunday hosts a vibrant street market, where a host of stalls sell everything from home-grown organic vegetables to handicrafts. jewellery, furniture and homeware. There’s always a welcoming atmosphere with live music in the centre of the square, putting everyone in the Sunday spirit. If you’re looking for a truly excellent lunch or dinner, head to Giri Café, in the heart of the village, where its innovative menu, charming garden and superb cuisine keep customers coming back time and time again.
Agrotourism
If you’re on holiday on the island whilst searching for your dream villa in Ibiza to call home, then San Joan is also home to some of the prettiest and most charming agroturismos (rural hotels). One of our favourites is Can Marti, a real hidden gem, set in a wonderful organic garden, where you’ll feel as though you’ve stepped into your own little piece of paradise. The building is over 400 years old and has been carefully maintained to preserve all its natural charm, whilst offering every modern convenience. Rejuvenate your senses in the stunning hammam, or simply make the most of Ibiza’s wonderful climate and soak up the healing rays of the Ibizan sun in one of the many garden areas or the eco-friendly swimming pool.
So, when deciding on the location for your dream villa in Ibiza, if you prefer the peace and tranquillity of the north, San Juan has everything you could possibly need to make all your dreams come true.
